About Me:
I am an artist. I travel. I am a mother and I love U People...

I start off every day listening to Goapele
cause i feel like i'm getting closer to my dreams
and it seems like i can't go a day without poetry
if i got shot and lost all my blood
poetry would still flow in me
if i was a slave during plantation days
poetry would be 13 runaways running toward brighter days
and it's funny
like marching to the beat of a dead drummer
it's gonna be a red summer
because poetry is the difference between the overcome
and the overcomers

Red Summer

if only for this moment…

steady electric pulses
rippling through the crisp afternoon air
millions of hopeful faces
millions of personal journeys

this is the moment
this is the time
this is where we stand
anxious and waiting
shoulder to shoulder
with elders and children
scholars and drunkards
educators and barbers
businessmen and garbage men
pushers
postal workers
painters
street walkers
singers
flight attendants
truck drivers
fire fighters
musicians
filmmakers
poets
and fools

here we all stand
shoulder to shoulder
wad… Continue

you know, it wasn't until i read the summary on CHASING SUMMER that i began to believe that it was okay for me to say (and believe) that i am still figuring out what i want to be when i grow up. i have 3 years left before my second life begins and i feel like a 5 year old answering the question...What do you want to be when you grow up? I wanna be a teacher, a contractor redesigning business processes, a sociologist, a psychologist, a counselor, a minister, a poet and slue of other things. i want a little ole house that's just big enuff for me and my two dogs; a place to "come home". but when i'm not home, we would travel in my beat up ole truck (which i am ASI certified to repair) around the country and across the americas just being free. THANKS for being living proof that "which ever way the wind blows"!

I want to complain, but can't. Most days frustrated, but I am still Blessed! Visited a couple of the local schools and life is a daily struggle for them. One school has 56 teachers, 1200 students that attend across 3 shifts six day a week. Most children attend five hours of schools in buildings with no electricity, a kerosene heater in each classroom, no potable water in temperatures that are currently reaching as low as 30 degrees. Yeah, those are some extremely harsh conditions. That said, we have some extremely harsh conditions of our own and these members hearts bleed more for strangers than their own. Somalia was a country w/o running water and no electricity and they felt nothing and continue to do nothing. I can show them some urban schools or some one room classrooms in the South.....just breeeeaaath!

So...how are things on your side of the world?!

okay, i didn't complete my earlier thought about being late and all...HAPPY NEW YEAR!
You know, I spent the first two months struggling with things that I have no control over. Not that I've had a talk with God and counseling from a few good friends, everything will be okay. The people are beautiful and everyday spent with them is a humbling experience. You know, the US offers more opportunities for success, but it comes up wanting when compared to the generosity, love, and respect that these people have to offer us and one another. All is well with you?
